Network equipment manufacturer Belden has launched a new industrial Ethernet end-to-end cable offering.
One of the firm's regional managers, Adam Callender said the technology has evolved in terms of overall performance and speed making Ethernet more applicable to industrial applications.
"Industrial Ethernet provides a common physical media among the various process/manufacturing devices, plus it seamlessly integrates the data flow between the front office and the plant floor," he said.
He added that while industrial Ethernet cabling is based on the same standards as the commercial technology the two environments are entirely different, with industrial cabling needing to cope with much more harsh and hazardous environments.
Belden has addressed this issue with its DataTuff cabling products, which provide both sealed and non-sealed IP-rated products, which the company claims are resistant to dust, moisture, oil and chemical exposure.
The company recently reported a first-quarter loss, losing more than $30 million (£20 million), but has exceeded analysts expectations.
