IT equipment manufacturer Tyco Electronics has begun shipping modular patch panels for use in network cabling systems.
The new devices have been launched by the company's Amp Netconnect subsidiary.
Compatible with both shielded and unshielded network installations, the panels can be terminated with any Amp Netconnect modular jack and come with a standardised fascia to ensure a consistent appearance whether they are used with Cat5 or Cat6 cables.
Each panel provides 24 ports in a 1U high configuration, taking up a minimum amount of space in server racks and server cabinets.
The patch panels are also supplied with unpainted 19-inch mounts which are fitted with grounding lugs.
Cable labelling is also simplified as the devices use rear cable management trays with transparent, removable plastic windows.
Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania has recently carried a huge overhaul of its network infrastructure using Amp Netconnect fibre optic leads and standard Cat6 cables.
