UK firm opens 100% renewably powered data centre - Data and Server Racks

UK firm opens 100% renewably powered data centre - Data and Server RacksUK company Verne Global has announced that its new data centre in Iceland, which is powered solely using renewable energy sources, is open and available for use.

The establishment is situated in Keflavik and is completely carbon neutral, using power from the country's dual-sourced renewable power grid.

Units in server racks and data cabinets will be cooled by using the ambient temperatures in Iceland.

Jeff Munroe, chief executive officer of Verne Global, commented: "The demand for high capacity, flexible and scalable data centre campuses has increased in parallel with the growing concern of rising cost and environmental impact of traditional data centres."

He added that the solution his firm has developed balances the need for high capacity computing with the ability to manage costs effectively.

This comes after InTechnology announced it is developing a new data centre in Reading and it is considering plans for a new one powered using household waste, the Yorkshire Post reported.
