"Encryption" is the most important issue when attempting to store data, an expert has claimed
Brian Chess, founder and chief scientist at Fortify Software, commented: "Using cryptography correctly is difficult. More often than not the weakest link becomes the software that orchestrates the process rather than the encryption algorithm itself."
The comments come after a recent report on cmswire.com claimed that mobile storage solutions need to be encrypted to be assured of having high security.
Mr Chess noted that the trend in the industry is specialisation. He stated that specialised providers will eventually be able to give a better class of service - including better security - to all customers short of those with highly specialised needs.
Such a trend may impact on the role and application of data storage equipment such as wall mounted data cabinets.
Meanwhile, a recent investigation by Business Week found that people considering moving their data to the cloud cited the security of their data as their major concern.
