Leading pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca will make use of off-site data cabinets after outsourcing its IT to an Indian services provider.
HCL Technologies will assume control of the group's data centre services, and will be responsible for managing its entire data centre environment.
AstraZeneca will utilise HCL server racks in 60 locations around the world under the terms of the five-year managed services contract.
Some of the drug company's existing data centres will be migrated to new facilities, while HCL will implement a hybrid cloud on behalf of the firm.
TechMarketView claimed that the contract could be worth tens of millions per year to HCL Technologies, which will be under pressure to deliver flawless data centre services.
Phil Codling, analyst at the analyst firm, commented: "Beyond its financial value, this appears to be one of those contracts with a healthy amount of marketing potential, given the high profile of the client and the scope of the services covered."
He claimed that AstraZeneca may be set to announce further IT outsourcing deals with other companies.
