Un-built data centre wins award - Data and Server Racks

Un-built data centre wins award - Data and Server RacksA high-tech business data centre has won a prestigious award even though construction on the project has not yet started.

The Elean Data Campus, which will be built on the old Mepal airfield near Ely, has been recognised as Europe's leading energy efficient data centre by the US Department of Energy and the Uptime Institute's Global Green IT Awards.

Alex Arthur, a spokesman for the scheme, said: "The Elean Data Campus has been designed in order to meet climate change levy exemption in the European Union."

He added that he is delighted by the international attention the project has received and hopes that the UK government will follow suit by giving its support to the ground-breaking development.

Construction will begin in the next 12 months and the project is expected to create 1,000 jobs.

Sun Microsystems was added to the Uptime Institute's Global Green 100 list earlier this month for its commitment to eco-innovation.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19154308-ADNFCR
