TelecityGroup has become the latest organisation to have the Carbon Trust Standard awarded across all of its data centres.
The recognition was given for the improvement in carbon efficiency the company showed between January 2007 and December 2009, while ISO 14001 certification was awarded for environmental management.
Carbon Trust Standards have gained importance recently as they now make up half of the Early Action Metric for judging performance in the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme.
Michael Tobin, chief executive of TelecityGroup, said: "As the services we provide are at the heart of the digital economy, it is crucial that we continue to strive for environmental best practice and ensure our energy usage is as efficient as possible.
"To be the first specialist data centre services company to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard across our UK operations, shows ... our continued environmental leadership.
One way in which businesses have sought to make data centres more environmentally friendly is by installing solar powers to provide some of the energy to power them.
