Sun Microsystems has expanded its high-performance disc storage arrays with the addition of the Sun Storage 6580 and 6780.
According to the firm, the arrays are the best performing devices in their class and are targeted at companies requiring mid and high-end performance.
The modular systems, which can be mounted in server racks and server cabinets, are capable of consolidating workloads within a data centre for greater efficiency and performance.
A statement from the company said: "The new Sun(TM) Storage 6580 and 6780 modular arrays complement a range of server architectures."
Sun Microsystems is also offering a trade-up option for existing customers, which uncovers the "hidden equity in a customer's current IT infrastructure".
The firm operates in more than 100 countries worldwide and employs over 33,000 people.
Core brands include the Java technology platform, the Solaris operating system, MySQL, StorageTek and UltraSparc.
Sun Microsystems has customers ranging from individual developers to large multi-national corporations.
