Data recovery and business continuity 'most important for IT investment' - Server Racks Businesses that are concerned about losing valuable data could invest in server racks.

According to VMware, more small and medium-sized (SMB) companies are turning to virtualisation and investing in cloud infrastructure in order to have a safe place for information to be stored.

A survey by Gartner last October found over three-quarters of US businesses questioned expect to have server virtualisation in wide use by 2012, while disaster recovery and business continuity continue to be the two main areas of expected IT investment for most SMBs over the next two years.

Tim Stephan, senior director of product marketing at VMware, commented: "For VMware, SMBs are the largest and fastest growing virtualisation customer segment.

"Once our SMB customers begin their virtualisation journey, they progress more rapidly than other types of businesses and adopt virtualisation to support a larger percentage of their infrastructure, including the use of the technology for more advanced applications such as business continuity and disaster recovery," he explained.

"SMBs who virtualise IT choose VMware due to its proven technology, advanced functionality and rapid return on investment," Mr Stephan added.
