Server racks 'may be in demand' as cloud computing grows - Data and Server Racks

Server racks 'may be in demand' as cloud computing grows - Data and Server RacksDemand for server racks could grow as a result of increased spending on server hardware, driven by the growth in cloud computing.

According to a new report by market intelligence firm IDC, revenue from public cloud computing server hardware will reach $718 million (£451 million) in 2014, up from $582 million last year.

At the same time, revenue from private cloud computing server hardware will grow from $2.6 billion to $5.7 billion, the company predicted.

IDC said its research shows that 44 per cent of organisations are thinking about investing in private cloud computing.

"Many IT decision makers are seriously considering cloud computing as a way to dramatically simplify their sprawling virtual and physical infrastructure," said Katherine Broderick, research analyst at the firm.

However, she pointed out that concerns still exist with regards to security and costs, so the true growth of the market will depend on how IT vendors address these issues.
