A leading provider of server racks and network attached storage solutions has announced the introduction of a new range of servers based on its MicroSlice architecture.
The company claims the new systems do away with the need for virtualisation software and set a new standard in terms of performance-per-watt.
According to Rackable Systems the new architecture allows for the smallest server footprint ever achieved by the company with up to 264 servers in a single server cabinet.
"Rethinking the whole approach to an existing market is at times the best way to achieve the magic blend of reducing costs and improving performance," said Mark Peters, senior analyst with the Enterprise Strategy Group.
He added that Rackable Systems had achieved that with its building-block server architecture, which is targeted at customers wanting to reduce costs during the current economic downturn.
Rackable Systems also offers built-to-order server solutions, including the Eco-Logical range, which the company claims provides greater efficiency and better performance.
