Research company YouGov is now using data cabinets and server racks in the UK after migrating its data centre from Germany.
According to ComputerWorldUK.com, the pollster has moved its data centre from Berlin to London in an attempt to save money.
To complete the move, YouGov virtualised its IT infrastructure in Berlin and then replicated the data to the London site.
This helped save time and also reduced the cost of transporting data and equipment such as rack cabinets.
Nicholas Carter, director of global systems operations at YouGov, said the firm had initially been very happy with the Berlin-based managed service.
But he explained that additional services and capability had to be taken on the providers' terms - reducing YouGov's flexibility and locking the company into its costs.
This persuaded the company to invest in its own data centre space in the capital.
