Data centres are set to undergo a design overhaul to ensure they are fit for purpose, businesses which use open rack systems may be interested to learn.
Speaking to Expresscomputeronline.com, Sitaram Venkat, server brand manager for public and large enterprise at Dell India noted that traditional data centre designs are "too rigid" for the developing demand of private and public sector organisations.
"The old models do not allow you to consolidate effectively enough, deploy virtualisation or help you make a move towards the cloud. You are limited in your ability to respond to business fluctuations instantly," he pointed out.
"Going forward, data centres will have to be entities that are highly virtualised and feature qualities such as a converged efficient fabric, consolidated workloads, automated tiered storage, self-service management, open-standards based infrastructure and automated infrastructure deployment," Mr Venkat noted.
His comments might lead some IT professionals to review their business' network equipment to ensure it is adequate for their future needs.
