Intel unveils new data centre SSD - Data and Server Racks

Intel unveils new data centre SSD - Data and Server RacksEnterprises may be looking to purchase new cabling kits so they can fit the latest solid state drives (SSDs) unveiled by Intel.

At the Intel Developer Forum, the firm highlighted the benefits of its 710 Series, which has a 98 per cent power reduction that could see the total cost of ownership significantly decline, reports IT Pro.

Rob Crooke, vice-president and general manager of Intel's non-volatile memory group, commented: "One the things we're excited about is the tremendous momentum and excitement we see in the enterprise space around SSDs."

Troy Winslow, marketing manager of Intel's NAND solutions group, added that as more companies require data centres, the importance of considering the total cost of ownership of the units in data cabinets becomes increasingly vital.

Earlier this month, Hosting UK opened a new data centre in North Wales after investing £100,000 in the project.

According to the company's managing director Phil Parry, using premises in this location is cheaper than opting for ones in cities such as London or Manchester.
