Pike research has announced that it is launching an information tool to help create greener data centres.
The company has set up the Green IT Advisory Service, a subscription-based tool that provides market intelligence and strategy insights to businesses that want to improve energy-efficiency in their facilities.
Technology issues, policy and regulatory factors will be among the areas that clients will benefit from with the service.
Clint Wheelock, managing director, said: "The global IT industry faces a unique opportunity to reduce its own energy costs and carbon footprint, in addition to having a substantial impact on the energy efficiency of other industries.
"Energy has often been an afterthought in IT circles, however it is fast becoming a key priority as well as a significant business opportunity."
Making server racks and other networking equipment greener has been an important issue in recent years both for environmental reasons and because of rising energy costs.
