New cabinet accessories will be required in Huddersfield at the site of a data centre that is to be built following approval by city planners.
Kirklees Council's Huddersfield Planning sub-committee voted to allow for the establishment of a new ata centre on Lindley Moor, but rejected proposals for the construction of 300 houses on this land.
According to the Examiner, agent Alistair Flatman told the sub-committee that the data centre would create new jobs in Kirklees, something for which there is "a clear need" in the area.
"This is an opportunity to raise the profile of Huddersfield," he was reported as saying.
The site will be spread across 345,000 square feet and the developer claims it will create 150 new jobs, however these figures were disputed by the Lindley Moor Action Group, which opposes the plans.
These latest developments come shortly after cloud services provider Equinix opened its third data centre in Sydney, Australia.
