Technical IT manufacturer firm SGI has introduced a new blade server product line to support supercomputing activities, it has been reported.
SGI ICE X includes a design that is optimised for technical computing, with integrated InfiniBand switch blades, reports CBR Online.
This is designed to offer better throughput, performance and reliability – and could help reshape the server racks industry.
According to SGI, the blade design makes the system easy and affordable to move to petascale computing and beyond.
Users can benefit from its integrated single or dual-plane FDR InfiniBand backplane interconnect, the news provider said.
Praveen K. Mandal, senior vice-president at SGI Engineering, said ICE X represents the next-generation of the firm's computing platform.
"We expect to extend our share in the large-scale cluster market significantly with the new SGI ICE X, as it is designed for scale, speed and density," he said.
