Samsung module to allow more memory in server racks - Data Centre and Server RacksCompanies with limited space in their server racks for memory may want to consider investing in new modules developed by Samsung.

The 1.25 volt DDR3 "green memory" was showcased last week at the Asia Pacific Datacenter Leadership Council in Singapore and it is aimed at "ultra low-power servers", reports the Register.

Once installed, firms that utilise the latest Samsung products may be able to reduce their power usage for memory by as much as 60 per cent.

According to the technology manufacturer, it will wire its 1.25-volt chips into its 4GB, 8GB and 16GB units.

The products are set to hit the market next year and are likely to be released alongside the new server processors set to go on sale from Intel.

Last week, the firm unveiled new solid state drives for data centres at the Intel Developer Forum. It revealed that the 710 Series could help enterprises to reduce their power consumption by as much as 98 per cent.
