HP to fit ARM chips in its servers - Data and Server Racks

HP to fit ARM chips in its servers - Data and Server RacksHewlett Packard (HP) has revealed that it will soon be fitting chips designed by ARM into its Redstone Server Development Platform.

Last month, ARM launched its Cortex-A7 MPCore chip design, which is a more energy efficient model than previous units.

A statement by HP revealed that HP Redstone incorporates more than 2,800 servers into a single rack.

Explaining the benefits that this offers, the firm said it can reduce "cabling, switching and the need for peripheral devices".

HP claimed that the new development could help customers achieve a 97 per cent reduction in complexity.

As well as using ARM technology in its server racks, HP revealed that it will also be installing chips from Intel and other, as yet unidentified, companies.

Last month, the organisation announced that it will expand its data centres as part of a plan to expand its private cloud computing business.

Speaking to V3, director of industry standard servers and software marketing at HP Jeff Carlat said the company had been working closely with Microsoft.
