Financial markets 'in need of efficient architectures' - Data and Servers Racks The large amount of information that needs to be processed in global financial markets means that facilities holding data cabinets are struggling to keep up with demand in a cost-effective manner, an expert has asserted.

According to Niall Dalton, high frequency trading director at global financial services firm Cantor Fitzgerald, the traditional scale-up or scale-out architectures are not ideal for this.

"The volume of data processed in financial markets has increased exponentially," he commented.

He asserted that the traditional systems are "struggling to keep up with demand without vastly increasing cost and power usage".

Hewlett Packard (HP) has announced the launch of Project Moonshot, which provides companies with a server development platform.

This comes after the company announced earlier this month that it will be fitting ARM chips into its Redstone Server Development Platform.
