Dell sees hope in downturn - Intelligent Server Cabinet/Rack Solutions

Dell sees hope in downturn - Intelligent Server Cabinet/Rack SolutionsLeading server component manufacturer Dell has said there is a glimmer of hope in the market despite the ongoing global economic downturn.

The company claimed that while the overall volume of network equipment shipments is down, the loss in revenue is being made up for by the sale of relatively high-value server components.

According to Dell's vice-president of software and solutions Rick Becker, "customers are buying fewer servers" but they are making up for this by purchasing "richer and more powerful servers".

The company witnessed an 11.2 per cent fall in server revenue in the last quarter of 2008, but the fall was not as marked as some of Dell's rivals – such as IBM and HP.

Meanwhile, the company has introduced a new range of server racks and server cabinets that provide users with more efficient power and cooling systems, which in turn allows them to run at a lower temperature without increasing total power consumption.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19061990-ADNFCR
