Companies with their own server racks may find that this is one area of their organisation that can be made more energy efficient, an expert has claimed.
In his company blog, vice-president of IT and data centre infrastructure management strategy (DCIM) vendor nlyte's co-founder Rob Neave asserted that firms aiming to reduce their carbon emissions should consider ways to minimise the amount of power wasted.
He suggested that data centres are one are that this can be achieved effectively, saying that a strong DCIM strategy considers the best ways to allocate power, cooling and space to individual assets.
"The hub of any organisation’s IT infrastructure, the data centre often poses the biggest opportunity to cut energy wastage, with its power thirsty hardware and rampant over-provisioning," Mr Neave stated.
Recently, the UK government announced that it plans to reduce expenditure on IT strategy by £1.4 billion by streamlining its operations.
