Companies in Europe are installing green technology in their data centres to reduce operating costs during the recession, it has been claimed.
According to DatacenterDynamics Research Group's Western Europe: Datacenter Investment and Infrastructure Trends 2007-09 report, data centre operators are using low-powered microprocessors in their server racks and server cabinets in an effort to reduce electricity bills.
Meanwhile, the report, which included responses from 287 businesses working in the server cabinets & server racks and data centre sector, claimed that the debate about cooling and energy efficiency was shifting.
"This has moved from general concerns about using too much power into the specific implications of this, in particular, the cost and availability consequences of inefficiency," the report added.
According to the report, the average maximum power consumption at data centres has reduced from 2007 levels while inlet air temperature has risen by 2.4 degrees to 20.8.
Green technology is attracting a record number of individuals and organisations, according to BusinessGreen, which is calling for the widespread implementation of green computing.
