High-density equipment can work alongside existing technology - Data and Server Racks

High-density equipment can work alongside existing technology - Data and Server Racks New high-density network equipment can easily work alongside existing low-density technology used by IT firms, it has been claimed.

According to a new research paper by APC, companies can now incorporate high-density server racks and server cabinets in their current facilities without undertaking a major overhaul – which could impact on a business's system performance.

The research noted that blade servers and 1U network equipment can provide more computer power per watt than legacy equipment, and implementing small regions of high-density processing can be the first step in a company's migration to more energy efficient servers.

"A high-density zone allows data centre managers to support a mixed-density data centre environment for a fraction of the cost of building an entire new data centre," the APC report said.

Earlier this year, structured cabling manufacturer Corning introduced its LANscape Pretium Edge solution, which the company claims can double cabling density in data storage facilities.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19359248-ADNFCR
