Energa working on Xeon blades - Data and Server Racks

Energa working on Xeon blades - Data and Server RacksNetwork equipment manufacturer Energa is working on getting its own Xeon 5500 blade servers on the market.

According to the firm's executive vice-president and chief marketing officer Christine Crandell, the new devices are expected to leave the production line in the next couple of months.

She claimed that the company will continue to support its existing 300 customers and 1,400 installations while seeking out new businesses for its Xeon BladeFrames.

The firm is currently offering Nehalem Xeon 5400 two-socket blades to its customers until the new socket for the 5500 becomes available.

Meanwhile, AMD's server and workstation business development director John Fruehe has called the furore surrounding Intel's Xeon 5500 server processor hype.

He stated that Intel's return on investment claim that users could save enough money from reduced energy consumption to pay for the new processors in eight months is ridiculous.

Mr Fruehe said the claim does not take into account the cost of migration of data, security, testing, unplanned consequences, licensing agreements and disposal of old server equipment.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19118016-ADNFCR
