Dutch engineers have created a new multi-storey data centre layout which they claim could cut costs for businesses by millions of euros a year.
Imtech, the company behind the innovative design, states that its Common Rail Cooling design draws on expertised from the company's other building and engineering divisions and allows it to channel air more efficiently.
The new system, it claims, allows large companies to save in the region of 10MW of electricity every 12 months equivalent to around 3 million (£2.6 million) to 5 million.
"Most data centres are designed horizontally, which means there is inefficiency in the transport of power and cooling," said Frank Brand, the director of operations at Imtech.
He added that many centres are too large in terms of floor space and too small in terms of available power and cooling.
Last week, Ucoustics claimed it had solved heat and noise problems in data centres with its latest range of soundproof data cabinets & server racks.
