Spending on network equipment for data centres is not likely to recover in the near future, it has been claimed.
According to Hewlett-Packard, the industry sector is still under huge financial pressure despite signs of recovery surfacing in the wider economy.
Speaking to Computer Weekly, Iain Stephen, Hewlett-Packard's vice-president of Enterprise Server and StorageWorks for the UK and Ireland, said: "I haven't met a chief information officer or IT director that thinks their budget is going up in 2010."
"It is looking as if it is going to be as tough as this year in terms of getting budget," he added.
However, Mr Stephen told the news provider that businesses could not postpone investment in the network infrastructure indefinitely, as legacy equipment could begin to undermine their operation.
Earlier this year, Timothy Prickett Morgan claimed that server manufacturer Lenovo would have to up its game if it was to compete with Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Dell.
