Data centre market 'to evolve'

Data centre market 'to evolve'The data centre market is set to evolve in 2009 as firms continue to adopt virtualisation and cloud computing, it has been claimed.

According to research by Solarflare Communications, which is a leading supplier of 10Gbit Ethernet components, there will be a shift in infrastructure investment.

The firm's chief technical officers George Zimmerman and Steve Pope said that big data centre operators and Asian manufacturers will bring 10Gbit computing into the mainstream.

Zimmerman and Pope added that new blade technology will allow for more server components to be crammed into server racks and server cabinets, improving efficiency and reducing power consumption.

"Data centers that have already moved to a tiered storage architecture such as iSCSI, may see the opportunity of further reducing energy consumption and increasing compute density by entirely removing rotating media," they added.

Mr Zimmerman claimed that more than 50 per cent of data centres will be using Cat6 cables by the end of 2009.

According to cabling expert Dileep Kumar, those planning a Cat6 lead installation should seek the manufacturers advice to reduce the risk of encountering difficulties.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19016317-ADNFCR
