Security is the biggest concern people have about moving over to the cloud, according to research by the Cloud Industry Forum.
Concerns over security and privacy were the main issues cited by users, with 62 per cent and 55 per cent of people questioned stating that they were their biggest worries respectively.
Commenting on the findings, Simon Bain, CTO, at Simplexo, a member of the forum, said that there are certain guidelines which need to be adhered to before everyone will consider storing their information in data cabinets.
“I am obviously a believer in using the ‘Cloud’ as a way forward for both personal and corporate life. However, there are certain guidelines that I think need to be adhered to before we all start throwing our hard disks away and placing everything in to the hands of others," he noted.
Mr Bain continued to say that both cloud providers and users need to ensure they are focusing on security over the coming months.
John Engates, chief technology officer of Rackspace, recently said that increased cloud computing transparency will encourage more people to place their data in the hands of a third-party vendor.
