The new Palo Server 2.0 has increased its speed by as much as ten times over its previous version.
Business intelligence applications based on Palo 2.0 may be able to run even faster than commercial solutions, showing that open source business intelligence does not necessarily have to be slower.
It achieves this high speed by keeping processed data in memory and with its queries for base and aggregated data cells taking place in real-time, rather than being based on relational technologies.
Kristian Raue, chief executive officer of Jedox GmBH, said: "Speed is one of the most frequently mentioned BI application requirements and, interestingly enough, is among its top points of criticism.
"Data queries that take longer than two to three seconds are no longer acceptable to most users. This threshold is not exceeded by Palo Server 2.0; data query results are generally displayed within milliseconds."
