New $20m US data centre on the way - Data and Server Racks

New $20m US data centre on the way - Data and Server Racks A state-of-the-art data centre is set to be constructed in Akron, Ohio, further enhancing the city's growing reputation as a Mid-West technology hub.

Under the new plans put forward by Iowa-based Involta LLC, a $20 million enterprise data centre is to be built and operated in the city over the next couple of years.

The upcoming centre's servers will house computer systems for both private and public sector organisations, including business, schools and government bodies.

It is anticipated that the 46,000-square-foot facility will be operational by the start of the fourth quarter of 2011, with Involta chairman Lonnie Bloomquist explaining that the data centre will help to boost network connectivity levels and the quality of technology infrastructure in Akron and the state of Ohio in general.

"Co-location data centres attract other technology-based companies in need of critical infrastructure support and protection as well as network connectivity," he explained.

This comes just days after Microsoft announced plans for a new £323 million data centre in the state of Virginia.
