Lockerbie data centre given go ahead - Data Cabinets & Data Racks

Lockerbie data centre given go ahead - Data Cabinets & Data Racks A proposed data centre to be built in Lockerbie, which will be the UK's largest such facility, has been given the go ahead by local planners.

The multi-million pound project has been permitted by the Dumfries and Galloway Council's Annandale and Eskdale area committee.

Lockerbie Data Centres (LDC), which is behind the new project, hopes that construction of the data storage facility will begin next year.

LDC project director David King said: "This is a major enterprise programme that will be of considerable benefit, not only to Dumfries and Galloway, but to the whole of Scotland, creating thousands of jobs.

"Feedback from the local community has been extremely positive and this development will put Dumfries and Galloway firmly on the map."

The 250,000 square metre facility will house hundreds of server racks and server cabinets when completed.

It is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs over the coming decade and attract inward investment of up to £3.5 billion.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19479348-ADNFCR
