Global server sales rise in Q3 - Data and Server RacksGlobal server sales are almost back at pre-recession levels thanks to one of the strongest third quarters in recent memory, according to data from Gartner.

The industry analyst's figures show that over the three-month period shipments rose 7.2 per cent to 2.37 million which although it could have been stronger showed a slight return to form for the market.

"The third quarter of 2011 produced growth on a global level but there was some significant variation in growth by region," explained Jeffrey Hewitt, a research vice president at Gartner.

In particular, shipments grew strongest in the Asia Pacific region (23.9 per cent), while Eastern Europe saw the highest vendor revenue growth at 27.4 per cent.

The slight rise in server sales could signal increased demand for server accessories such as server racks.

Mr Hewitt added that he does not expect sales to downturn in the coming quarters.

Last week, the GadgetGUY, David Novak claimed that PC sales are likely to remain strong, perhaps signalling that IT departments are getting their appetites back.
