Firms 'should review record of data centre providers' - Data and Server Racks

Firms 'should review record of data centre providers' - Data and Server Racks Companies considering building a data centre, complete with server racks and other hardware, need to take care when selecting a company to operate the facility, an expert has warned.

Aidan Tudehope, managing director of hosting at Macquerie Telecom, told ARN Net that building an establishment to house data cabinets is only the first step.

"It is one thing to build a data centre facility, but it is another thing to run it. It is important for decision makers to review a providers' track record," he asserted.

The expert recommended that firms look at the accreditation, process and experience of potential providers.

His comments follow the release of a whitepaper by Frost & Sullivan indicating that some data centres are not equipped to handle a shift into a high-density computing environment.

Recently, a 3.2-acre site in Bracknell was purchased by Hermes Real Estate Investment Management and GCE Data Centres for the development of a new 60,000 sq ft data centre, reported DatacenterDynamics.
