Facebook to build data centre in Taiwan - Data and Server Racks

Facebook to build data centre in Taiwan - Data and Server Racks Facebook has outlined plans to construct a huge new data centre in Taiwan, as it looks to continue its global expansion.

The social networking phenomenon could open a new base on the Central Taiwan Science Park, if reports are accurate.

If plans do go ahead, the data centre will cover the equivalent space of 180 basketball courts, making it the biggest complex of its kind in Asia.

The construction could be a coup for the Taiwanese government, which has already seen search engine giant Google announce details of a sizeable new data centre in the area.

Indeed, Google revealed in September it would invest $100 million (£62.1 million) into the 15-hectare facility and between five and 20 full-time jobs would be created as a result.

Facebook will be hoping the new data cabinets will help the organisation deal with its massive number of subscribers. It currently has 800 million active users, with more than half of this number logging on to the site every single day.
