A new 16,500 sq m data centre in Russia was opened over the weekend, making it the largest facility to hold server racks in Europe.
It was developed by Sberbank at a cost of $1.2 billion (£746 million) and was completed in 15 months, reported the Moscow Times.
According to the firm's risk department vice-president Vadim Kulik, the facility is one of a system of 28 constructed to process loans from 800 locations around the country.
The establishment, which will feature data cabinets, will be used to store information from the company's regional banks in order to reduce the time it takes for the firm to implement banking services.
It was built by contractors from Ireland and Russia and is part of Sberbank's efforts to centralise all of its IT systems.
This comes after data centre operator Infinity announced that it recently purchased a 125,000 sq ft space in Thames Valley to house its hardware.
