Data cabinets and server racks are set to be utilised at a new data centre development planned for Dublin's Profile Park.
Digital Realty Trust (DLR) has acquired a site on the complex to build four linked data-processing facilities, which will be constructed and leased out to clients.
Search engine giant Google is currently in the process of constructing a new data centre on the same business park in the Irish capital.
According to the Irish Times, DLR has made a revised planning application, which will give it seven years to complete the project.
DLR bosses believe Ireland's climate makes it an ideal place to locate a data centre, as ambient air can be used to cool computer and server racks within the building.
Adam Levine, vice-president of sales for DLR, said this will deliver a "substantial reduction" from the electrical consumption typically required for cooling a data centre.
"We think Ireland is a great place to do business," he commented.
