Data centres 'need to accommodate processor-dense systems' - Data and Server Racks

Data centres 'need to accommodate processor-dense systems' - Data and Server Racks An expert has asserted that data centres may need to be redesigned in the future to accommodate systems with more processors.

At the Gartner Symposium, the firm's vice-president analyst Michele Caminos said one of the trends chief information officers (CIOs) need to be aware of is the growth in the number of processor cores available in modern systems, Search CIO reports.

The expert observed that there are quad, eight and event sixteen core processors either available or in the pipeline and that CIOs should consider then when setting up their facilities with data cabinets and server racks.

Ms Caminos added that some data centres may need to be redesigned to accommodate these processor-dense systems.

This comes after Rob Edwards of Next Generation Data said in an article for Financial Director that there is likely to be a sustained demand for data centres in light of the recent surge in the uptake of cloud computing solutions.
