The rapid emergence of cloud computing and virtualisation is placing increasing strain on data centres, a new white paper has found.
According to analysts at Frost & Sullivan, although virtualisation is helping to resolve a number of issues across the world, it is also giving some IT specialists a few headaches, IT Wire reports.
The report suggested manufacturers who produce new data cabinets need to stay on top of their game to cope with the growing pressure put on the industry by cloud computing.
Specifically, cooling and power systems need to be upgraded quickly to cope with the demand for virtualisation.
"It [the report] also offers recommendations to IT decision makers on how to select the optimum hosting provider if they decide to outsource data centre hosting to a third party," commented Frost & Sullivan's research director for ICT practice Arun Chandrasekaran.
Technology expert Rob Edwards recently wrote for Financial Director that companies need to ensure they install a data centre that is at least 20,000 sq ft in order to cater for the extra demand for cloud computing.
