IBM launches new 4P server ? Data and Server Racks IBM is celebrating the launch of the latest edition to its AMD Opteron series of servers.

The technology giant was widely credited with helping move the global server market forward with the launch of its first Opetron server, which was geared towards stripping away unnecessary applications and boosting overall performance levels.

Now, the newly-launched AMD Opetron 6000 platform-based server is to offer businesses around the world enhanced server accessibility, with the new technology to be made available through collaborations with the likes of HP, Dell and Acer.

IBM is set to unveil this new server technology at this week's VMWorld Conference in San Francisco.

A statement from the company said that this latest addition to its server range offers business users a "broad and powerful platform" upon which to build their IT operations.

IBM has also confirmed that it has enhanced its IMPACT partnership with the European Union, through which it is helping to digitise the continent's historical texts and documents, many of which date back hundreds of years.
