Cloud computing improves work flexibility, says BSC - Data and Server Racks Outsourcing key software frameworks to remote data cabinets through cloud computing provides greater work flexibility, according to BSC, the Chartered Institute for IT.

Zahl Limbuwala, chartered fellow of BCS and chair of its data storage group, explained that the "greater portability" of data meant that mission-critical information could be accessed and uploaded from mobile devices while home or abroad.

He added: "Properly implemented cloud has an indirect benefit in terms of time-to-market for businesses needing to deploy or expand rapidly."

According to security specialist Symantec, more than 75 per cent of organisations are discussing private and hybrid cloud deployments.

Furthermore, 45 and 43 per cent of companies are already implementing server and storage virtualisation respectively.

Of those in the process of moving their data storage to a cloud, 55 per cent are motivated out of a need to reduce operating expenses.

Meanwhile, a further 53 per cent said they were embracing virtualisation to improve their disaster recovery readiness.
