Small businesses will continue to prioritise cloud computing investments over the coming 12 months, it has been claimed.
Writing for StartupSmart.com, Michelle Hammond said hosted services enable businesses to shift workloads between a corporate data centre and their cloud of choice.
Firms can use a public, private or a hybrid model to reduce their reliance upon on-premise IT, she noted.
And because IT services are delivered remotely from an off-site data centre, businesses no longer have to worry about maintaining server racks and data cabinets in-house.
This allows companies to reduce the amount they spend on IT management and maintenance, while gaining access to the specific expertise held by cloud computing providers.
John Karabin, vice president of Verizon Business Australia, recently told the news provider that cloud computing allows businesses to store and use data as they need it.
"Cloud computing is allowing firms to own and run the hardware and the software on behalf of other people, so they don't have to go to the cost of setting up data centres," he stated.
