Scalable 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40GbE) network capabilities have been revealed by Extreme Networks at Interop Las Vegas, it has been reported.
Extreme said that its VIM3-40G4X is fully compatible with current Summit X650 and Summit X480 stackable switches and adds four 40GbE connections to the "top-of-rack" stackable Summit X650, according to Lightwave Online.
The website reported that a VIM3-40G4X installed in a Summit X650 stackable switch in a top-of-rack configuration is being showcased by Extreme Networks at the Las Vegas event.
In the demonstration, the module is fitted on a stackable switch connected to the BlackDiamond 8800 chassis with a four-port 40GbE module configured as the data centre core, added the website.
According to Shehzad Merchant, senior director of strategy for Extreme Networks, the need for a 40GbE at the top-of-rack is increasingly becoming important as servers adopt native 10GbE connectivity.
The RJ45 connector, which is used with CAT5 cables, is one of the most common connectors for Ethernet applications.
