Network equipment manufacturer AIS has introduced a new space-saving server that takes up just one unit of server rack or server cabinet space.
The organisation said the compact server rack mountable device comes with a variety of hardware options, including with Intel's Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo or Atom N270 series processors.
It also supports a variety of chipsets including GM45 or 945GME.
The company looks to be aiming at the small and medium-sized business market as the new servers take up less space and have relatively low power consumption.
Commenting on the durability of the new device and its suitability for use in harsh industrial environments, the firm said: "AIS utilises industrial grade components and long-lifetime supported embedded platforms to ensure long product availability, performance, and reliability for unmatched service and support."
Recently, IT expert Jim Docherty told Public Technology that recent advances in server room technology, including in the field of equipment cooling, means IT departments can actively reduce their power consumption by upgrading their hardware.
