Kell Systems has launched its ComputerVault Mini server rack enclosure, which is specifically designed for small offices as an alternative to housing servers in a computer room.
The server cabinet looks like a regular cupboard and is described by Kell as an "air-cooled acoustic server rack enclosure", which can sit in an open-plan office and is especially useful for firms with limited space.
In addition, the ComputerVault Mini is designed to cope with the thermal and cooling issues associated with servers and remove the bulk of noise caused by the devices.
"Technically we achieve 98.5 per cent reduction of server noise," the company's chief executive officer Tim Walsh tells Network World.
"Many people have compared the noise of the portable server environment to the gentle hum of office aircon."
He adds that the server cabinet is ideal for offices with just one or two servers.
Last month, it was reported that AV Racks is planning to introduce a new range of server racks and server cabinets which can be used to house audio visual equipment at the upcoming Integrated Systems Europe Show in Amsterdam.
