Cloud and virtualisation 'most positive for businesses' - Data & Server Racks

Cloud and virtualisation 'most positive for businesses' - Data & Server RacksCloud computing and virtualisation technologies have had the biggest positive impact on businesses in 2011, IT leaders have claimed.

Research conducted by BT Engage IT indicates that 70 per cent of companies rated the impact of these solutions as being most important.

The findings suggest an increasing number of UK companies have been using off-site wall mounded data cabinets and server accessories this year.

John Thornhill, chief executive at BT Engage IT, suggested the hype over cloud computing and virtualisation is almost over - because the technology is now so commonplace.

"The industry has been talking about them for a number of years - and they’ve become business, rather than just technology terms – but companies are now using these technologies in earnest," he added.

"The positive impacts referred to could be a range of things - cost savings, productivity gains or even improved levels of customer service."
