A rapid explosion in 'Big Data' is set to cause a data crunch, it has been reported.
Research carried out for Oracle by analyst firm Quocirca indicated that many companies are running out of storage space in their server racks,
The firm said that growing demands placed on the data centre will stretch companies to breaking point in the coming years - despite increasing cloud adoption.
Some 56 per cent of respondents said they now use external data centre capacity, up from 40 per cent last spring.
Oracle said many businesses seem to have been "caught off guard" by the boom in ‘Big Data’, and have failed to make the necessary preparations, such as investing in new data cabinets.
Just six per cent of businesses have a sustainability plan to cope with rising demands on their data centre infrastructures, the report stated.
And 38 per cent believe they will need additional capacity in the near future, the firm said.
