Cool bags for servers could cut costs - Cabinet Accessories

Cool bags for servers could cut costs - Cabinet Accessories New cool bags designed to wrap around server technology could pave the way for further cuts in power consumption in the IT sector, it has been claimed.

According to experts, the new cooling modules created by Iceotope are potentially "game changing".

The new devices were unveiled at the Supercomputing 2009 seminar in the US and Iceotope believes that its modular cooling technology is designed to cool the contents of the bag – thereby doing away with the need to keep entire data centre facilities below a certain temperature.

Iceotope said: "[The new] approach takes liquid - in the form of an inert synthetic coolant, rather than water - directly down to the component level.

"It does this by immersing the entire contents of each server in a bath of coolant within a sealed compartment."

Recently, IT expert Jim Docherty told Public Technology that advances in server rack and server cabinet cooling technologies were helping firms reduce expenditure on energy and drive down operating costs.ADNFCR-1186-ID-19464686-ADNFCR
