Budget server room deployment 'is a challenge' - Data and Server Racks Keeping operational costs low is always a challenge and creating a dedicated server room in a business does not have to break the bank, it has been claimed.

According to industry expert Paul Holstein, while it is possible to cut corners and reduce IT spend in many areas creating a reliable server and ensuring it is housed in a cool and secure room is essential.

"Just as all proverbial roads lead to Rome, all structured cabling leads to the server room. This considered, the ideal server room is centrally located," Mr Holsteim said.

He also recommended sticking with the same manufacturer for hubs, switches and routers as it will reduce the impact of troubleshooting and maintenance for the business in the long run.

"Should you ever encounter a problem with a mixed setup, troubleshooting between several manufacturers could prove extremely tricky," he added.
