The ongoing global economic downturn has failed to curb demand for data centre storage capacity, it has been claimed.
According to IDC, pressures on IT budgets are forcing more firms to consider outsourcing their data storage systems and other network equipment.
The view held by IDC has been supported by Nick Maynes, a senior analyst at PAC Consulting.
He told Eweek Europe: "We think there is huge pressure on data centre capacity at the moment.
"One of the problems in the market at the moment is that a lot of new capacity that was planned over the last 12 months, has been put back because of funding challenges," he added.
Mr Maynes claimed that many large companies are struggling to locate local data storage capacity and so are starting to look further afield.
Recently, Sun Microsystems unveiled a new 2TB solid state storage device aimed at the data centre market.
The product is server rack mountable.
